This mostly is so I have an easy to link to version for <a href=\"http:\/\/z303.org\/2008\/05\/more-on-startups-in-uk-and-bristol\/\">a braindump of some more links and thought on the subject<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811075126\">johnbradford<\/a>: Giant Were-Rabbit to convince commuters to set up business in the South West <a href=\"http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/4cfkj2\">http:\/\/tinyurl.com\/4cfkj2<\/a> *sigh* marketing gone mad?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/t1mmyb\/statuses\/811078984\">t1mmyb<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811075126\">@johnbradford<\/a> there&#8217;s a bigger issue of London-centricity throughout politics and business that a marketing gimmick won&#8217;t solve<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811088457\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/t1mmyb\/statuses\/811078984\">@t1mmyb<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811075126\">@johnbradford<\/a> Reminded me of a post by Tom Coates that in part asked why Bristol did not have more startups <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plasticbag.org\/archives\/2006\/05\/how_american_are_startups\/\">http:\/\/moourl.com\/iv1r9<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/t1mmyb\/statuses\/811093864\">t1mmyb<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811088457\">@Z303<\/a> \ud83d\ude15 at comment by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plasticbag.org\/archives\/2006\/05\/how_american_are_startups\/#comment-80178\">kawt<\/a> &#8220;Bristol thinks too much of itself and is too arrogant to survive in a business that changes hour by hour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/paparatti\/statuses\/811095850\">paparatti<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811088457\">@Z303<\/a> &#8211; hasn&#8217;t the UK only really just started producing great start ups now? And those were in London.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811097848\">johnbradford<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/t1mmyb\/statuses\/811093864\">@t1mmyb<\/a> not sure I&#8217;d agree with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plasticbag.org\/archives\/2006\/05\/how_american_are_startups\/#comment-80178\">kawt <\/a>on that &#8211; if anything Bristol needs be a bit more self-promoting and joined up<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811098619\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/t1mmyb\/statuses\/811093864\">@t1mmyb<\/a> Just read it, Bristol being right wing! most people I meet are left wing or centrist, maybe if I moved in different circles<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811099267\">Z303<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/paparatti\/statuses\/811095850\">@paparatti<\/a> I guess the big one is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.last.fm\/\">last.fm<\/a>, Someone had a good post about how the BBC should be helping like it did with the BBC Micro<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/mikedunn\/statuses\/811099519\">mikedunn<\/a>: <a>@paparatti<\/a> Hence I&#8217;m always surprised Twitter hasn&#8217;t taken off more in the UK- we&#8217;ve been obesessed with our mobiles for years here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/paparatti\/statuses\/811101851\">paparatti<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811098619\">@Z303<\/a> &#8211; re: right wing, I think it&#8217;s a 50\/50 split between racist bigots and hippies in this city.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811102412\">johnbradford<\/a>: have to agree with <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811098619\">@z303<\/a> perhaps if we were *more* right wing and bolshi we&#8217;d have more Valley style start-ups \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811104173\">johnbradford<\/a>: or at least commercially minded rather than hippy lifestyle &#8211; commercial hippies?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811104275\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/paparatti\/statuses\/811101851\">@paparatti<\/a> That would explain why we get strange mixes<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811106255\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811104173\">@johnbradford<\/a> Should have used quotes, I was saying that find kawt&#8217;s comment does not ring true of the people I know here<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811108127\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811104173\">@johnbradford<\/a> And being bolshi is nothing to do with being left or right wing, more to believing in something<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811108837\">johnbradford<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811088457\">@z303<\/a> do you find Brizzol folks collaborative or commercially driven enough (ignoring political leanings) to start-up business rather than lifestyles?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811110734\">johnbradford<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811088457\">@Z303<\/a> I know some very cool and creative Bristol companies but they&#8217;re aren&#8217;t putting themselves on the growth curve you see in the US<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811112672\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811108837\">@johnbradford<\/a> commercial but things like fairtrade\/green issues being a larger driver<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811113521\">johnbradford<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811112672\">@Z303<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.frankwater.com\/\">FrankWater<\/a> being a great example I guess<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811115637\">Z303<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811110734\">@johnbradford<\/a> Another thought UK has always been better a small bespoke places, more <a href=\"http:\/\/www.37signals.com\/\">37 signals<\/a> than <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/\">yahoo!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/samharding\/statuses\/811118864\">samharding<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811113521\">@johnbradford<\/a> that&#8217;s bonkers<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/johnbradford\/statuses\/811119836\">johnbradford<\/a>: <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/Z303\/statuses\/811115637\">@Z303<\/a> true, but can you build a bespoke service that scales? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ning.com\/\">Ning<\/a>?
